A guide to buying baby blankets

It sounds pretty straightforward to buy a baby blanket, but this is yet another area where you might feel you need some expert advice when preparing for a new arrival. We have three different types of blankets to choose from and here’s an overview of how you would use the different ones:

Receiving blankets: If you’re buying for a newborn, a receiving blanket is a good-sized blanket, which many parents like because the size is very manageable. Receiving blankets are ideal for covering newborns in the moses basket, buggy or car seat.

Cot blankets: If you’re looking for a long-lasting blanket, our cot blankets are larger in size and work well for covering baby or toddler in a cot bed or buggy. These blankets are sure to be treasured for years! (They now come in two styles – picot edge blankets and squares blankets.)

Comfort blankets: After hearing from customers that their little ones can’t go to sleep without their cashmere blankets, we invented the comfort blanket–small and much more convenient blankets for use as comforters. These little blankets, which can be personalised with baby’s name, make brilliant gifts!

Top choices for personalised corporate baby gifts

Finding unique gifts for colleagues is never easy, and that’s why we’re regularly helping companies in the search for the perfect baby gift for a new mum or dad in the office.

In our experience, most firms want to steer away from basics, which the parents have stocked up on before birth, and they are looking for a unique and thoughtful gift that will become a wonderful keepsake.

That’s why our collection of  personalised baby gifts–all handmade in the UK–is very popular, and some companies have pre-selected gifts from our collection which all employees receive when having a baby.

Here’s a selection of top choices for personalised baby gifts:

Personalised nursery cushion (£49)

Getting little ones ready for sunny weather

Last weekend, we heard the beautiful sunny weather had taken many mums by surprise. Few had left the house in the morning with sunscreen and sun hats in the changing bags, thinking it would stay cold for the rest of the day. But in the afternoon it was like any other fantastic summer day, and many were faced with a risk of getting sunburnt.

With summer fast approaching, now is the time to start thinking about protecting little ones in the sun, and here are a few tips for what to look for this season:

Summer cardigan
It’s always useful to have a cardigan for layering in the summer, as the best way to protect baby’s skin in the sun is often to cover up. All our jackets can be made in a cotton/cashmere blend, which is ideal for summer.

Sun hat
It’s also worth carrying a sun hat around for the next few months, and always ensuring you can protect your little one when the sun comes out. We’ve got sweet baby sun hats, which can be made in a variety of Liberty prints, so they can match our gorgeous summer dresses, shirts and baby outfits.

What to buy for your summer baby

When preparing for a new arrival, it can be difficult to know what to buy since there’s so much choice and shopping lists tend to vary greatly. But it doesn’t all have to be so challenging.

We are regularly helping parents-to-be find out what they need for their newborns, and here’s a brief overview of what most of our customers would want to buy for their summer babies:

Blankets
It’s a good idea to start with two blankets, and if you’re expecting a summer baby, you might want to have one in cotton/cashmere for warm days and one in merino/cashmere for colder days. Many opt for our cot blankets, as blankets in this size are still useful to have when baby is older.

Cardigans
It’s also practical to start with two cardigans in size 0-6 months, which baby can wear when out in the pram, for example. Our hand-knitted cardigans are soft and unique, and you can choose from a wide selection of colour combinations. For summer, our cotton/cashmere blend is a brilliant option, and matching cardigans and booties make adorable outfits for photo shoots.

Hats
Even if baby is born during the summer months, it’s worth having a couple of hats at hand. Cotton or cashmere are great options over the summer, and you can choose to have our selection of hand-knitted hats in the same colours as the cardigans and blankets. Very stylish!

Babygrows
In addition to knitwear, we recommend parents-to-be to buy some babygrows. Many choose to start with four in size 0-3 months, and our Kissy Kissy baby grows are a favourite with parents of newborns, as they are made in 100% Pima cotton and have a soft and luxurious feel.
